This week we had an special visitor named Johnny, Johnny played music that had important messages. Johnny hosted the Drum Show in the hall, which the whole school participated. He played music from a drum known as djembe, which we followed the beat of his drumming. As we were drumming we also sang small phrases that had important messages. I found this quite fun because it was funny and really loud which allowed me to go all out of enjoyment. Before the Drumming Show started, the year 8 & 7 had to collect a junior and help them with what to do in the show. After the Drum show ended, Johnny was giving out drums to PBS if we had given the correct answer.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teacher is Mrs Anderson.

The Life Jacket Disaster/ Narrative
“Elijah are you bored?”
“Yeah Kind of Spencer."
"Have you heard of the story called Life Jacket Importance, Elijah?"
“No, Why Spencer?”
“Let me tell you the story Elijah.”
It all started with a stormy night when the clouds were dripping tear drops. There was a kid named Jenesis who was soaking wet. At school he was usually naughty which is why his dad wanted him to change. Jenesis', dad Michael, waited for an opportunity to take him fishing to see if he could reason him as to why he’s always so naughty.
When Jenesis got in trouble, he was sent back home. Michael saw an opportunity and took it. As they went fishing, Jenesis' attitude began to change and his angry face began to fade away as his smile got bigger. Suddenly the smile changed. A huge wave pushed them in the direction of a rock they couldn’t avoid launching both of them into the water. It was like the waves just reached up with their huge arms and hugged them closely. A little bit like when your mum hugs you so tight you can’t breathe. As they dropped into the water, the boy floated as he had a life jacket on but his dad was sinking into the sea.
“Hey Spencer did Michael drown?”
The boy was screaming help as his dad was at the fate of death until he saw his dad swimming towards him. Jenesis looked around his surroundings and saw his dad's life jacket floating in the water. His fear was overtaken by his smile as he started to swim towards his dad's life jacket.
He began to cry. If only he could remember the swimming lessons he learnt at school which he disrespected so much. He reached the life jacket and he threw to the position of his dad. Micheal reached up in the air and grabbed onto it while breathing heavily. Jenesis was so thankful that his dad was alive.
After the disaster that happened Jenesis even went to say sorry to his school.

Ballet
This week we had a special guest named Chloe, she flew from Wellington to Auckland. Chloe was teaching us ballet, she taught us dance moves that were included with our choreography dance we were going to perform. This was the first time I experienced how ballet felt, it was quite difficult as you sometimes had to be flexible to perform a specific move, but it was usually fun. What I found cool was how we had to make our own pose during the choreography dance. What was really difficult at some point was kicking up in the air and rolling around the ground. Thank you Chloe for teaching us ballet and for making it fun.

Waltzing Matilda
This week for reading, we talked about the main idea about Waltzing Matilda. We also had to back up our main idea by writing down true details from the text. We then made a summary DLO about Waltzing Matilda. In this DLO we added 20 important words, which we then narrowed down to 6 most important words out of the 20. Using those 6 words, we had to make a summary about the poem, Waltzing Matilda. The poem was about a Swagman who stole a sheep from a farmer, which the farmer than called the troops to catch him. The Swagman was well aware that the troops was under his tail, until he escaped them and was never seen again.

Literary Devices
This week for reading we were challenged by Mrs Anderson to make a DLO about Literary Devices but only on a google document. This challenge was quite hard because usually I make a DLO on google drawing which google drawing has lots of creative things. In our DLO we showed explanations, examples and a picture to give the reader a big thinking.
Here is the link to my DLO.
